History

Known as the First Town in the First State, Lewes was the earliest settlement in Delaware after it became the first state to adopt the U.S. Constitution.  Since it is one of the oldest cities across America, its known for its rich cultural and historical heritage.  Today, this aspect of the city is pretty much the pride of every Lewes homeowner. 

With a total area of 4.3 square miles, 3.7 of which is land, Lewes, Delaware enjoys a population of a little more than 2,500, 80% of which are Caucasian.  Since the Dutch were the first to settle in Lewes in 1631, a rich Dutch heritage is still visible in terms of traditions and practices of residents.
