There are a few food choices, activities and even clothing that are closely associated with the summer season. If someone were to ask you to describe what summer is to you with just four items, you might say flip flops, ice cream, camping and the beach. Another activity that most are sure to add is cooking out. That is what summer is to me. If the warmer months go by without a BBQ and cook out with friends, then you've been cheated! Yesterday the Young Marrieds Group at my church had such a gathering. Around 5pm, friends starting pouring in by the bunches, with their small children in tow. It was brutally hot outside - like the suffocating kind of hot - but somehow everyone seemed to just look past it. After all, that's just what you do to enact one of the most "American" traditions you can involve yourself with. It was a pot luck sort of gathering, so couples came bearing gifts of potato salad, chips, soda, cookies and more. We sipped on our beverages, laughed and enjoyed life in that moment the way it was meant to be enjoyed.
During all of the fellowship, however, I couldn't help but notice our incredible hosts scurrying around prepping and serving the guests. Another couple from our group was hosting the event at their home. As many times as I offered to help, they politely told me to just enjoy myself. Maybe it's the workaholic in me, but it was almost torture to see our friends running back and forth to the grill as we all chatted and watched nearby. Don't get me wrong, I was truly appreciating time to just relax, but my heart went out to the ones doing the cooking over a hot grill in 90 degree weather. Then after all the cooking was completed, side items were neatly placed on a table with serving utensils and drinks were poured, the work only began. I cringe to think about the clean up - not just the throwing away of trash - but scrubbing out the grill, wiping down the counters, washing all of the dishes and getting your house in order after the tornado of friends finally left. It got me thinking. Surely there must be an easier way to enjoy some old fashioned, mouth watering BBQ without all of the hassle. Fortunately for Rehoboth guests and residents, there is.
For those itching for some good BBQ, Rehoboth has one of the best restaurants in the area! Located in Bethany, DE and at 18285 Coastal Highway in Lewes, Bethany Blues is well known for it's delicious food. They have been awarded by Food Journal and Readers Choice the titles, "Best BBQ, Best Live Music Venue and Best Sussex Family Dining." It doesn't get much better than that, does it? This is a venue that goes above and beyond simply providing you with substance in your belly. Atop their award winning food, the atmosphere is always fun and exciting with special events almost every day. They show football during the season on large TV screens, offer specialty nights like personalized Mac and Cheese night, have Happy Hours and much, much more. And if the flashing lights and lively music doesn't interest you, then let's get down to the heart of the matter. After all, it's really all about the food. At the end of the day you go for what tastes good, right? I know from experience that you can't really go wrong, no matter what you order. Bethany Blues offers a lunch, dinner, children's and Sunday brunch menu. Start off with appetizers ranging from fried pickles (yum!) to BBQ Deviled Eggs! (Pretty creative, huh?) For those wanting to go a different route there are salads galore from literally a plate of lettuce all the way up to a seafood salad option. For your entree, enjoy a juicy bacon wrapped NY Strip Steak ($27.99), Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes ($25.99), Blues Jambalaya ($18.99), Smoked Sausage and more. Then there's also the burgers, pulled pork and chicken sandwiches ($9.99-12.99), ribs ($23.99), Beef Brisket ($17.25) and the list goes on. The prices are pretty reasonable with the ones I just quoted being the Dinner Menu prices. Lunchtime cost is even more cost effective!
Needless to say, it's the everyday BBQ lover's dream come true. And if you're still kind of hung up on the whole dynamic of a REAL cookout at a friend's home in their backyard, then Bethany Blue's still has you covered! That's right... they cater! Now you can still enjoy the summertime memory of having everyone over, letting the kids run around in the back yard and the deliciousness expected at a cookout, but all without all of the prep work and clean up. Just imagine... a cookout without any grill to heat up, without any pots and pans to clean... just fun to be had for all. (Even the host!) Bethany's BBQ does carry out BBQ, parties and weddings, office gatherings, platters and more. To view a full list of catering services click here. Hey, at least we informed you. Now you won't have any reason to complain the next time your house is designated as the cookout party scene. You're sure to be the start with this kind of catering!
