The Voice of Voting
It has been months since the general election campaigns commenced - and it has been rough. Story after story, attack after attack, mud slinging and more mud slinging. But as easy as it would be to chalk everything up as negative and horrendous, the truth is that there are extremely positive outcomes from what we like to call, the election process. While candidates and their supporters can get overly eager to support their causes, a lot of good comes from elections season every four years. For a short period of time, the whole nation is actually tuned into the issues. People who might not usually watch the news or read articles about politics and governmental procedures suddenly start to pay more attention to the happenings of our country. Even the most non-confrontational individuals feel a little fire deep down in their guts when their candidate comes under fire, and for a moment, we are united. Oh sure, we might not agree on who to vote for as Commander in Chief, but we are united in our care and concern for the United States of America.
We start to think about laws and legislation. Our children begin to ask questions about what is taking place, and for a brief while, we turn our gazes away from the frivolous TV shows and soap operas to watch intense debates on economic policies, counter-terrorism and the future of our great nation. It really is an inspiring time, which causes you to rethink old ideas and create a belief system on such topics. Subjects that the average individual may not concern themselves with on a daily basis are brought the the forefront of every media outlet, news channel and yes - even social media sites. Teenagers begin developing opinions on more than just the clothes they wear, but on the values that they consider vital for their futures. Influential figures turn their popularity and celebrity statuses into platforms to promote worthwhile causes and the candidates they believe will support them. It really is a life-changing time for our America.
It is also a time to be heard. We've all listened to people complaining through the years about this and that. So-and-so thinks that taxes should be lowered, and Mr. What's-his-name is adamant that the minimum wage should be increased. Yet so many of the complainers are not active in incorporating the change they'd like to see. They are too busy and tired to get involved. Some even get too complacent to vote on election day! But what this special process we endure every four years really does for our country, is let its citizens be heard. If you want change, you must vote. If you don't vote, then no one wants to hear you complain.
So here we are folks. After days upon days of nail-biting news coverage, campaigning and more, this is the week it all happens! Within one day, our nation's direction will be drastically different. Under new leadership, America can be all that you'd hoped it to be - or not. The choice is up to you. Will you vote? Starting Tuesday morning, November the 8th, voting stations will go live around the country. Locations vary depending on where you live and in what country you are registered in. Delaware voting times are from 7am to 8pm. As long as you are in line by 8pm you will still be able to cast your ballot! To speed up the process, bring a photo ID with you when you head to your designated voting place. Not sure where to vote? Simply click the graphic below to find out!
